If we observe the restrictive rules imposed due to the coronavirus epidemic and combine forces, then “together we will succeed again,” Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said in a video message posted on his Facebook account on Tuesday.

He said Parliament had granted the government the requested extraordinary powers, the relevant decrees had been issued, and the latest restrictive regulations would enter into effect from midnight.

“I’m asking you all to observe the rules, to take care of each other, and to take especially good care of our parents and grandparents, our elderly and ill compatriots,” Mr Orbán said after signing the decrees. On Tuesday, Parliament extended the effect of the state of danger declared due to the coronavirus epidemic after having voted for the law on the fight against the second wave of the epidemic.

On Monday, the Prime Minister said it is necessary to reduce the number of coronavirus incidences because if the number of infections continues to increase at the present rate, hospitals will not be able to cope with the burden weighing heavily upon them.

Among the latest restrictive measures, he mentioned the curfew in force between 8.00 p.m. and 5.00 a.m., the introduction of digital education for students from grade eight upwards, the ban on gatherings and events, the closure of restaurants, and the rule that sports events can only be held behind closed doors.
