The 14th General Assembly of the World Jewish Congress (WJC) will take place in Budapest between 5-7 May. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán expressed in his letter to President of the World Jewish Congress Ronald S. Lauder that it is an honour for Hungary to host the event. Numerous high-ranking governmental officials will participate and Prime Minister Viktor Orbán will address the opening ceremony.

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán gave an interview to Kossuth Rádió this morning. With relation to the tobacconist concession, the Prime Minister said that the Government is searching for legal possibilities that might enable those tobacconists who have made their living from tobacco retail to not lose their income. The number of people affected is currently being summarized.

In the interview, the Prime Minister explained that "we are clearly not anti-Semitic. It is our duty to refute these accusations and also to consider why people who judge Hungary from the outside today include anti-Semitism as one of our country's characteristics". According to Mr. Orbán, this is a consequence of history.

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán declared at the ceremony marking the completion of the first stage of renovation work on the Romanesque church in Ják, that Europe and Hungary may also be renewed if they manage to focus on the traditions of praying and working, and announced that the Government is providing further financial assistance to renovate the building. Ják Church was built in the 13th century and is one of the most important Romanesque monument in Hungary.
