Orbán-Zeman meeting: V4 unity is a shared interest

Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister’s press chief, has informed Hungarian news agency MTI that Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, the Czech head of state Milos Zeman and several members of the Hungarian and Czech governments had talks in Mr. Orbán’s office in Budapest.

Mr. Havasi said that they discussed cooperation among the Visegrád countries, international affairs and Hungarian-Czech economic relations.

Mr. Orbán stressed that there are no problematic issues in relations between Hungary and the Czech Republic, and cooperation between the two countries’ governments is excellent in every area, including in their joint work within the V4 and in EU politics.

Both parties highlighted the importance of cohesion and unity among the Visegrád countries. The press chief said that at the meeting they had assessed current issues in world politics, and also spoke about EU affairs.

Mr. Orbán and Mr. Zeman confirmed that the Czech Republic and Hungary are key strategic partners, and that in 2018 the two countries had posted a new record in bilateral trade. Mr Havasi said that they had agreed on further strengthening cooperation in areas such as nuclear energy cooperation and the development of tourism.
