At the Friday talks of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga held as part of a video conference, the coronavirus pandemic was one of the most important topics, Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister’s press chief informed the Hungarian news agency MTI.

Mr Orbán congratulated the Mongolian head of state on his country’s effective fight against the epidemic as so far in Mongolia only a few hundred confirmed cases of coronavirus infection have been recorded, while no fatalities have been reported. Despite this, they are keeping their borders closed, and are maintaining stringent containment measures, the Mongolian politician pointed out.

The Hungarian Prime Minister said after the end of the pandemic, they would like to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in a befitting manner.

At the online talks, the parties pointed out that Mongolia is a traditionally important partner of Hungary in the Northeast Asia region. Our bilateral political and cultural relations are especially good, and therefore, we would also like to enhance our economic cooperation. As part of the policy of “Easterly opening” in 2015, we reopened the Hungarian Embassy in Ulaanbaatar, Mr Havasi recalled.
