Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on a new European alliance: “let’s hold our horses!”
07. 03. 2019.
Asked by Hungarian news agency MTI about press reports suggesting that Fidesz should leave the European People’s Party to create a new European anti-immigration alliance, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that campaign fever, impatience and increased excitement is understandable in the run-up to elections to the European Parliament (EP), but “let’s hold our horses!”

Under the headline “A New Alliance!”, the editorial in the Thursday edition of the Hungarian daily “Magyar Nemzet” states the following: “The [European] People’s Party have chosen the socialists and liberals, whom they want to please. There is only one path left for Fidesz: the path of a new alliance. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Fidesz should leave the European People’s Party and enter into an alliance with Matteo Salvini, Austria’s Freedom Party and Poland’s governing party. Today this is in the best interest of Europe and the Hungarian people.”
