In a letter sent on Friday, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán congratulated Donald Trump, the new President of the United States. Bertalan Havasi, head of the Press Office of the Prime Minister, made the letter available to kormany.hu.

In his letter Mr. Orbán wrote that Donald Trump’s historic election victory gives him a strong mandate from the American people to bring about change.

In his view, the world is facing enormous challenges which require a new and brave approach.

“Our ever-growing economic ties; long-standing cooperation in areas, such as the fight against terrorism; our similar visions on economic and security policies, on the responsibility for the safety of our own citizens, and on border control and migration, give us a historic opportunity to shape the future together”, the Prime Minister wrote.

In his letter, Mr. Orbán stressed that he looks forward to “further enhancing the long-standing, strong and cordial ties” that exist between Hungary and the United States. The Prime Minister is “confident that through our continued partnership, we will be able to tackle the challenges and explore the opportunities”.

At the end of his letter the Hungarian prime minister once more assured the newly-inaugurated US President of his support.
