On Saturday in the Carmelite Monastery, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán received Hunor Kelemen, President of the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (RMDSZ), Bertalan Havasi, the Deputy State Secretary heading the Press Office of the Prime Minister informed the Hungarian news agency MTI.

He said the regular Advent meeting of the Prime Minister and Hungarian leaders from beyond the borders could not be held this year due to the pandemic, and the talks held on Saturday partly compensated for this.

At the meeting, Mr Orbán and Mr Kelemen agreed that RMDSZ’s good result in the elections in the wake of the election unity forged by Hungarians enabled the Hungarian organisation to obtain an important internal political role during the formation of a government in Romania.

The presidents of Fidesz and RMDSZ said they are convinced that RMDSZ’s role in government will constitute a strong link between Hungary and Romania, and could significantly improve bilateral relations, Mr Havasi said.
