Hungary supports North Macedonia’s EU membership

On Tuesday in the Carmelite Monastery Prime Minister-President of Fidesz Viktor Orbán received members of the leadership of the Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organisation – Democratic Party for Macedonian National Unity, President Hristijan Mickoski and Deputy Vice-President Aleksandar Nikoloski, Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister’s press chief informed the Hungarian news agency MTI.

Mr Orbán stressed that Hungary supports North Macedonia’s accession to the European Union, and that the country should be allowed to play an active part in the series of conferences about the future of Europe that is already under way.

At the meeting, the parties also spoke about the intensifying migration pressure, pointing out that cooperation among the countries concerned and the development of border protection are important priorities.

In the context of the coronavirus pandemic, they highlighted the role of vaccination in conquering the virus.

The President of Fidesz reassured the VMRO-DPMNE party of his support in the local elections due to be held in North Macedonia in October, Mr Havasi said.
