In a war situation we need composure

“We’re in a war situation; at times like this, we need composure,” Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said in a video statement sent to the Hungarian news agency MTI on Monday.

The Prime Minister said the National Security Operational Group also met this morning; they reviewed the latest developments of the Russian-Ukrainian war.

He stressed that it is in the best interests of the Hungarian people that Hungary should be left out of this war. Therefore, Hungary is not sending either weapons or military personnel to the war zone, he stated.

Mr Orbán said they also had to decide whether to let arms shipments through the Hungarian-Ukrainian border. “We decided that we won’t let any such shipments through,” he said, adding that the reason being that Hungarians live in Transcarpathia, “and we can’t support any measure that could jeopardise their security”.

“Naturally, we will provide humanitarian assistance,” Hungarian aid supplies were sent to Ukraine both on Sunday and Monday, “and we are continuously taking care of the refugees arriving from there,” the Prime Minister said in conclusion.
