OTP could soon announce the acquisition of a major Uzbek bank, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said in a video posted on his Facebook account on Thursday.

The Prime Minister said the leaders of Turkic states are holding their annual summit in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. There is plenty to talk about: war, sanctions, a world economic crisis, general uncertainty both in Uzbekistan and in Europe, he added.

Mr Orbán said they had arrived with a business delegation of sixty because on Thursday they conducted bilateral talks with the Uzbek president and his government about business opportunities. They came close to OTP soon announcing the acquisition of a major Uzbek bank, while announcements regarding the pharmaceutical industry can also be expected about the commencement of a manufacturing base to be established there.

Agreements are likewise expected to be reached on issues related to water management, the food industry and nuclear energy, the Prime Minister pointed out.

He said they would start discussing the issues of the sanctions and the war with the leaders of Turkic states on Thursday evening.

During the day in Samarkand, Mr Orbán held bilateral talks with President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Kyrgyz head of state Sadyr Japarov, Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister’s press chief informed the Hungarian news agency MTI.
