02. 06. 2022.
According to Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, Hungary’s opinion about the introduction of a possible EU sanction against Russian Patriarch Kirill has been well-known for a long time, and at the EU summit no one spoke out against the Hungarian position.

The Prime Minister’s press statement was forwarded to the Hungarian news agency MTI by Bertalan Havasi, his press chief. According to this, Hungary naturally observes the agreement EU heads of state and government reached at the meeting of the European Council; these decisions are binding on everyone.

Mr Orbán added that Hungary’s position about the introduction of a possible sanction against Patriarch Kirill has been well-known to EU partners for a long time; in recent weeks, it has been voiced on a number of occasions at the consultation forum of EU permanent representatives, COREPER.

At the extraordinary meeting of the European Council held on Monday and Tuesday, no one spoke out against the Hungarian position, Mr Orbán wrote, concluding his statement.
