Prime Minister Viktor Orbán attended V4 summit and meeting of European Council

On Thursday evening via video conference, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán consulted with his Visegrád counterparts and later with members of the European Council with respect to the fight against the coronavirus epidemic, Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister’s press chief informed the Hungarian news agency MTI, adding that the attendees condemned the Islamist attacks in France in the strongest possible terms.

President of the European Council Charles Michel convened the extraordinary online conference of the heads of state and government of EU Member States because the epidemic situation is deteriorating throughout Europe, and the need has emerged for coordinating even more closely the efforts made to contain the epidemic and discussing some practical tasks. Also on this occasion, the consultation of the V4 countries served to prepare for the EU summit as Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic reach joint positions on most EU topics and represent Central European interests together, the press chief highlighted. He added that at the beginning of the European Council meeting, the attendees condemned the Islamist attacks committed in France in the strongest possible terms, and reassured the French people of their solidarity.
