Prime Minister Viktor Orbán had talks with Israeli chief rabbi

In the Carmelite Monastery, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán received Israel’s Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi David Lau with whom he also spoke about the support provided for Jewish communities, relations between Hungary and Israel, and the Russo-Ukrainian war, Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister’s press chief informed the Hungarian news agency MTI on Thursday.

At the meeting, which was also attended by the Prime Minister’s political director Balázs Orbán and Chief Rabbi of the Association of Hungarian Jewish Communities (EMIH) Slomó Köves, Mr Lau thanked the Hungarian government for the support they provide with a view to strengthening Jewish communities in Hungary and around the world.

He specifically expressed his gratitude for the help and care that Hungary is providing for Jews fleeing from Ukraine.

Mr Orbán and Mr Lau were pleased to acknowledge the close, strategic alliance that exists between the State of Israel and Hungary.

At the meeting, in the context of the Russo-Ukrainian war, the parties stressed the importance of an immediate ceasefire and the restoration of peace, Mr Havasi reported.
