On Tuesday in the Carmelite Monastery, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán received Francois-Xavier Bellamy, head of the MEP group of the French Republicans. The French politician will chair the web conference entitled ‘Europe Uncensored’ to be organised by the Foundation for a Civic Hungary on Wednesday where in addition to Mr Orbán, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jansa will also be among the speakers, Bertalan Havasi, the head of the Press Office of the Prime Minister informed the Hungarian news agency MTI.

At the Tuesday meeting, the parties spoke about the different European responses given to the coronavirus pandemic, the economic crisis and mass immigration.

Mr Orbán and Mr Bellamy discussed issues of European political current affairs, the draft of the EU budget for the period between 2021-2027, the recovery plan seeking to give the European economy a boost, and concepts relating to the management of migration, while they also exchanged views on the future of Christian democracy. They agreed that in a number of areas our region is gaining in significance ever further, and therefore it is crucial for the continent whether Central Europe, with Hungary in it, will be able to occupy the place it deserves when it comes to exchanging views about our common European future. This is one of the reasons why the web conference to be held on Wednesday is important.
