Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s talks with Latvia’s head of state – European borders must be protected

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán received Latvia’s president of the republic in the Carmelite Monastery, and reassured him of Hungary’s support in the fight against illegal migration, Bertalan Havasi, the Deputy State Secretary heading the Press Office of the Prime Minister informed the Hungarian news agency MTI on Wednesday.

Egils Levits arrived in Budapest on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the establishment and the 30th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries at the invitation of Hungarian head of state János Áder.

At the meeting of Mr Orbán and the Latvian president, the parties reviewed the challenges facing the European Union and NATO, and possibilities for the strengthening of bilateral economic relations and scientific cooperation.

As part of the talks, the two leaders highlighted the importance of the protection of the EU’s external borders, and pointed out that Brussels should provide appropriate financial assistance with this for the Member States, Mr Havasi said.
