The law will be good for workers

In the Parliament Building, after Members of Parliament voted to amend the Labour Code, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán told journalists that important and good legislation has been created. He said that it includes provision for voluntarily changing working hours and overtime.

Mr. Orbán said, “I listen to everyone – especially trade unions: I listen to their views, I respect freedom of opinion, and I always take into consideration the arguments which are expressed. In this case I think that the objections put forward carried far less weight than the legislative amendment itself. This is a good law, which will be good for workers.”

In reply to a journalist’s question as to whether the opposition’s protest in Parliament fell within acceptable democratic boundaries, the Prime Minister said that this should be left to historians to answer.

Asked how he felt when an opposition MP blew a whistle close to his face, Mr. Orbán said that in Fidesz this is referred to as the service of the nation.
