Uzbekistan is our strategic partner in Central Asia

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán received President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev in the Carmelite Monastery, Bertalan Havasi, the Deputy State Secretary heading the Press Office of the Prime Minister informed the Hungarian news agency MTI on Tuesday.

At the talks, the Prime Minister said Hungary looks upon Uzbekistan in the Central Asian region as an especially important partner. The cooperation is of strategic importance equally from a political, security, economic and energy point of view, he stated.

The parties highlighted that economic cooperation between Hungary and Uzbekistan had never before been as intensive as it was at present; in this we attribute special significance to the Hungarian-Uzbek Business Council. They also spoke about the fact that, as part of the Stipendium Hungaricum Programme, Hungary intends to provide one-year training for ten Uzbek students in the area of nuclear energy in order to promote energy and nuclear cooperation between our countries.

Mr Orbán accepted the Uzbek President’s invitation to the summit of the Organization of Turkic States to be held in November in Samarkand.

During the Tuesday talks, the parties signed fourteen agreements, among others, about the development of strategic partnership between Hungary and Uzbekistan, and cooperation planned in the areas of justice, environmental protection, sports and agriculture.
