The solution to the coronavirus epidemic is the vaccine which is now within reach, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said in a video message posted on his Facebook account on Saturday evening after he had met with scientific experts at the Carmelite Monastery.

The Prime Minister said “we seized the opportunity to deal with the vaccine in particular and in detail. The vaccine is the solution. It is now within reach. Today’s meeting confirmed this, too.”

He said “we have a good chance for the European, Chinese and Russian vaccines to reach Hungary in good time, and for us to make them accessible  – after thorough checks – to those who want to have themselves vaccinated”.

“Until then, however, we have quite a few weeks left, and so it’s important to be aware of what is going on around us. Austria which is our laboratory is especially important for us,” the Prime Minister added.

The Prime Minister said on Saturday evening he had spoken to Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz whom he had asked to share with us Austria’s experiences.

He observed that on Sunday the economy will be on the agenda; he will be expecting the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, while on Monday the Operational Group will have a meeting.

“There, further decisions regarding health care could be adopted,” he said.

Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister’s press chief told the Hungarian news agency MTI that the meeting held at the Carmelite Monastery had been attended by Rector of the Semmelweis University Béla Merkely, Dean of the Semmelweis University’s Health Care Public Service Faculty Miklós Szócska, mathematician of the University of Szeged Gergely Röst, Minister for Innovation and Technology László Palkovics, the Minister heading the Prime Minister’s Office Gergely Gulyás and the Minister heading the Cabinet Office of the Prime Minister Antal Rogán.
