We focus on full employment

Hungary has its own social model, as part of which it focuses on full employment which is now well within reach, the Prime Minister said in a statement he made upon arriving in Porto, Portugal, where the EU’s Social Summit began on Friday.

Viktor Orbán said Hungary has created a workfare society which is based on full employment, a robust family policy, and family grants and benefits amounting to 5 per cent of the gross domestic product (GDP).

“Our system is working well, we are ready to share our relevant experiences with others,” he said.

In answer to a question from the press, he stated that it is a basic premise for Hungary that women and men are entitled to equal treatment. As a Christian, the only problem he has is the use of the word ‘gender’ which is an ideologically motivated term. The meaning of this term is unclear, and is somewhere between the designations ‘man’ and ‘woman,’ he said.

He underlined that Hungary does not wish to mix ideological debates with a firm commitment to the equality of men and women. Therefore, instead of the term ‘gender equality,’ he stresses the importance of equality between men and women. However, this Christian approach is always rejected, Mr Orbán added.
