Hungary is able to provide help for everyone in need of assistance, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said on Thursday in Kisvárda during an inspection of the Hungarian authorities and institutions receiving refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine.

In a video posted on his social media account on Thursday evening, the Prime Minister said as far as he can see, today the number of refugees arriving in Hungary will exceed 450,000. Together with Interior Minister Sándor Pintér, they visited the institutions – police and disaster management institutions – which are playing a key role in providing care for the refugees.

The Prime Minister added that based on his observation, coordination is running smoothly. “We are able to provide accommodation and care in a coordinated manner for an even larger number of refugees than we’re dealing with today. I’d like to say thank you to our police officers and disaster management personnel,” he said.

Mr Orbán also mentioned that they had visited the Kisvárda hospital. They know this institution well because also during the war in Crimea they designated this hospital for providing care for possible casualties. Also now, they designated this hospital; should sick refugees arrive, they will be taken care of in this hospital. The hospital personnel have prepared for the situation, and are able to provide care for people in trouble in even larger numbers than today, he stressed.

“There are many refugees, and many children in and around Kisvárda. I’d like to say thank you to the people of Kisvárda who have a big heart and have provided accommodation for a very large number of children in the town. As far as I can see, also in the coming weeks we’ll be able to provide help for every person in need of assistance,” said Mr Orbán in the video posted on his Facebook account.
