What József Szájer did is not compatible with the values of our political community, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán told Magyar Nemzet Online on Wednesday. The newspaper reported that on Wednesday József Szájer had left Fidesz.

The former Member of the European Parliament announced his resignation from the party in a single-paragraph letter sent to Fidesz party director Gábor Kubatov, Magyar Nemzet reported. In this regard, during a break of the Wednesday cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán told the newspaper “what our fellow parliamentarian József Szájer did is not compatible with the values of our political community”.

“While we will not forget or disown his work of thirty years, his actions are unacceptable and inexcusable. After what happened, he made the only right decision when, whilst apologising for what he did, he resigned his mandate in the European Parliament and left Fidesz,” the Prime Minister said, adding that they accepted Mr Szájer’s decision.
