It would be contrary to European values if richer states received more funding

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán consulted with President of the European Council Charles Michel as part of a video conference, Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister’s press chief informed the Hungarian news agency MTI. The consultation was held in preparation for the EU summit due to be held on 17-18 July.

Mr Orbán said Hungary has a vested interest in the European Union having a fair budget; however, the proposal currently on the table is far from fair.

Richer Member States simply cannot be given more funding because that would be contrary to European values, the Hungarian Prime Minister stated during the talks.
