Prime Minister Viktor Orbán had talks with chief executive of Rosatom

At the meeting, which was also attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó and Minister for the Paks II Project János Süli, the parties established that the two new blocks to be built in Paks guarantee the availability of the required quantity of cheap and climate-friendly electricity from a domestic source also in the decades ahead.

During the household energy crisis currently affecting Europe, it is especially important that beyond offering a safe supply of energy, nuclear power also plays a key role in creating price stability and maintaining the reduction of household utility bills, the parties highlighted.

At the meeting, the parties also discussed that ever more EU countries are realising that in addition to renewable energy sources, in the long run it is well worth relying on atomic energy, or else the climate protection goals set cannot be achieved.

At the Friday meeting, the attendees reviewed the status of the Paks II project. The parties are working on the realisation of the project in harmony with the most stringent Hungarian and international regulations and safety requirements, and are seeking to ensure that the blocks start commercial operation in 2029 and 2030, the press chief informed MTI.
